Google Picasa was a free desktop application for organizing, editing, and sharing photos. It automatically scanned your computer for images, grouped them by date, and offered quick tools like crop, straighten, red-eye removal, auto-enhance, and simple filters. Users could add tags, captions, star ratings, and face recognition, as well as create albums, collages, movies, and slideshows. Geotagging with Google Maps and seamless sharing to Picasa Web Albums (later Google Photos) made backup and sharing straightforward. Available for Windows and Mac, Picasa was popular for its speed and simplicity. Google discontinued Picasa in 2016; while the desktop app may still work offline, it no longer receives updates and some online features are disabled. Users are encouraged to switch to Google Photos for ongoing support.
